Jewish past of Heide-Kalmthout (public walk in village Heide and evening presentation @ library Kalmthout)
“The Jewish History of Heide” with author Margot Vanderstraeten and cultural activist Lukas Pairon
We start the afternoon with a cultural-historical walk in the village of Heide (2 pm to 4 pm, guide: Hans Geldhof), where hundreds of Jewish residents and tourists in the 1930s left their mark in the streets (the old synagogue, houses and hotels…).
Subsequently, author Margot Vanderstraeten will be interviewed by Lukas Pairon about her latest novel ‘Mazzel Tof’ (from 16:30 to 17:30 in the library of Kalmthout). In this book Margot Vanderstraeten describes her experience with an orthodox Jewish family in Antwerp. As a twenty-year-old student, she gave lessons to the children of a well-to-do orthodox Jewish family in the late 1980s.
